SCHOOL Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides the Montrose, La Crescenta, Verdugo City, and La Canada communities with a safe place to learn self defense and get in great shape. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is considered by many to be the most effective self defense martial art, and the one best suited for children, women, and anyone who needs to overcome a size and/or strength disadvantage while defending him or herself.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY
"This place is outstanding. No egos whatsoever. SCHOOL BJJ has a great atmosphere and the camaraderie is the best. I felt welcome and comfortable from day one.
"My twin boys have been going to the children's class for about 7 months. Marnie and Sean are wonderful teachers who really get to know the kids. The whole studio has a family vibe to it that is so welcoming and pleasant."
"I love this place. After 2 classes, I knew this was for me. This is a great place to learn the skill of BJJ, get a great workout and develop relationships. I wish I could go every day.

Head Jiu-Jitsu Instructor
Professor Ben is the head instructor and head strength and conditioning coach at SCHOOL BJJ. Ben is a Paragon Black Belt under Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller. Ben began training in 2005 under Professor Rodrigo Teixeira after becoming interested in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from watching early UFC and Pride events and noticing that Jiu-Jitsu fighters were dominating in matches.
Jin is an assistant instructor at the academy. His passion for martial arts spans over thirty years of continuous training. His search for knowledge lead him to study Wing Chun, Okinawa Te, Shito Ryu Karate, Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do, Shoot Fighting (Shooto), Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Wrestling and BJJ. Jin has modified and condensed all of his training into what he now calls “The Art of Pressure Fighting”.
Head Kids Instructor
Shawn is a BJJ brown belt under Professor Ben Zhuang and veteran teacher with 13 years in the LAUSD. He began training in 2008 and loves the camaraderie of BJJ. He has built a thriving kids' program in Montrose in just eight months, with kids from ages 4 to 14! (But if you really want to see Shawn light up, ask him about his craft beers.)
Coach Ash was raised in the beautiful island of Guam. After completing five years of honorable service with the U.S. Marines, Ash moved to LA, where he was bitten by the “Jiu-jitsu bug” and began training with Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles, from whom he received his purple belt. He medaled in various BJJ organizations such as the IBJJF, NABJJF, and the JJWL
